Shortlisted Nominations, 15 April 2014

Integrity, commitment, enquiry and excellence: the shortlisted nominations for the RPS Music Awards, presented in association with BBC Radio 3, have been announced.

The RPS Music Awards are the UK’s most prestigious awards for live classical music. They celebrate the outstanding brilliance of distinguished musicians, composers and young artists and reward imaginative ways of broadening our understanding and enjoyment of music.

From over 400 nominations in 13 categories, the 65 expert jurors have chosen this year's shortlisted nominations, which reveal a bold, ambitious approach to music-making.

John Gilhooly Royal Philharmonic Society Chairman comments:

“The Royal Philharmonic Society Music Awards, stand for integrity, commitment, enquiry and excellence. They are not commercially driven and cut through hype to put the focus on the music itself.

2013 was a big year for classical music yet, beyond the anniversary blockbusters, the shortlists also reveal a rich vein of musical talent and a willingness to engage audiences in invigorating ways: concerts in unusual locations; bold programming for all ages; uncompromising musicality.

All the shortlisted nominees are prepared to take risks, and in challenging themselves, they draw us into a musical world that is dynamic, unpredictable and hugely enjoyable.  The RPS Awards are an important opportunity to celebrate their outstanding achievements and the vibrancy of live classical music in the UK.”

The RPS Music Awards are independent and peer-judged. The winners will be announced at the Dorchester Hotel on 13 May 2014.
